Youngster (Trainer class) - Bulbapedia, the community-driven Pokmon encyclopedia

June 2024 · 8 minute read

A Youngster (Japanese: たんぱんこぞう / たんパンこぞう Shorts Youngster, shortened in Generation I to たんパン Shorts) is a type of Pokémon Trainer that debuted in the Generation I games. They are depicted as average young boys usually wearing caps and short pants.

They use a variety of Pokémon, but they tend to use common ones that are caught early in their respective games. In Unova and Kalos, a significant amount of Youngsters specialize in Bug-type Pokémon, likely due to the absence of the Bug Catcher class in those regions. Some will give out Ultra Balls when defeated. In the Battle Maison, they specialize in Bug- and Normal-type Pokémon.
