What bands/singers do you like the most?

Satoshi,
Checking my profile is pretty tough huh? I'm 19.

Ok let's see, are Nirvana overated? No. I am fully aware that they were a huge and culturaly signifiant band. I really would've liked to have seen them in their peak. But. And you'll like this I can tell, all those morons out there who worship Kurt Kobain as a god and blindly insist that Nirvana are the greatest band to ever walk the planet that you see around today can just fuck off and die. Seriously, Nirvana were a great rock band who did a lot for grunge but I personally think that Dave Grohl has acheived so much more and made much better music with Foo Fighters (and to a lesser extent, Queens of the Stone Age) than he ever did whith Nirvana.

First of all, I really dished it out to you..... :p a little sorry... remind me to never post before my morning coffee. I wrote you a long one, and you had a good one to reply back to me. I respect that! Well, I will agree that Kurt was NOT a god, and never will be one. I was one of the people who was a fan before Kurt died, and was always disgusted with the crowd who followed the band because OF the death. Death worshippers do leave a bad taste in my mouth. I am not the biggest Foo Fighters fan, but I also do enjoy a good bit of their music. I do have to wonder if his success would have been as mainstream if it hadn't been the public's knowledge of his membership with Nirvana. That really isn't anything to think about though.... his talent for surpassed nirvana, and his creativity was no longer throttled by being a drummer in a band with a lead singer who tried his hardest to keep out of the public eye. I applaud Dave.

Radiohead. Ok. First off, I actually own OK Computer and I have aquired a slew of their singles from various compilations. And seriously, I do not understand the appeal of this band. All their songs are overly drawn out, melancholy, dreary and plain old boring music. Futhermore, all their songs sound the same, even Tom York's new solo album sounds like it may as well be another Radiohead release. Hey if you like their sound, woah that's a ton of great music, but for me, nup.

I really like Radiohead. I have never been the world's biggest fan though, but I love most of their music from OK Computer and on. I can see your point, but in the area where I live, they have never been overrated, or even given a second thought. The appeal that they have for me is in the fact that they are dreary at times... I do enjoy a band like that sometimes. I am glad to have an explaination besides that you just think they are an "overrated band." This at least explains why you don't like them. Thanks.

Chilli Peppers, see above. They're just like Radiohead except they gain/lose band members every few years and have less ambient, synthasizers and more boring. You know this one time, I was at my mates place and we were playing some game on his computer, causing Media Player to glith up and repeat flying away on my zephyr song, I don't know what it's called. And you know what? I could not tell where the song began and end. it's almost as if they walked into the recording studio, hit autoplay on the computer and recorded 15 seconds of vocals. Then, they left and had a beer.
Or maybe I'm just annoyed that my favorite RHCP song, Roller Coaster of Love, was not included on their so called "Greatest Hits". They could've left Californication off and I would not have cared.

Roller Coaster of Love? Do you mean to tell me that they covered the great Ohio Player's Love Rollarcoaster? I wouldn't mind hearing this. I once again thank you for your explanation. :D I though am I big fan of funk, as well as punk, and both of those can be found in the RHCP's origins. The albums that I have really enjoyed are pre-Blood Sugar Sex Magik, and have more short and sweet funky songs than their later years. I don't know if you have caught their pre-warner brothers years, but you might wish to give them a try before dismissing them completely. I doubt my favorite bands will be called overated in ten years mostly because I'm a bit to much of a pretentious music jerk to listen to anything too popular.

- erases R.E.M, U2 and Placebo from list - :p

I am kinda of a pretentious music jerk myself, so I can respect what you just said there. As I have said, I really only listen to music that moves me... and most top-40 music doesn't do that for me. That does NOT though make those musicians bad. it just makes them not to my taste.

And what a shame removing REM from your list. I live in the same state that they started in, so they were kinda of a local band. While I was too young to catch them live in their early days, I know people who went to college parties with some of the members, and people who used to catch them at local clubs. It's kinda hard to see a band from such humble roots who I grew up listening to becoming "overrated," but then again I haven't kept up with them since 1994's "Monster," which I really didn't like, and nothing they did after that sounded too good to me either. To look at their current output and look at the fans like me who love the band for their better years may cause some to say "overrated..." but I disagree.

Now, I guess since you were actually nice enough to make a decent reply (I was very happy to have a long thought out response from you) I should list some of the bands who have been on my cd player/turntable/computer as of late.

Ween (seen them twice)
Shonen Knife
The Pillows
REM
Mindless Self Indulgence (seen them 3 times)
Group X (local band, seen them at least 15 times)
Bad Religion
Dogbowl
King Missile
Minutemen
fIREHOSE
Atom and his Package
Sonic Youth
Funkadelic

And.... well.... I should just stop there. I am just a big music fan and have a list a mile long of bands who have brightened my day, gotten me through a blue time, and just plain put a smile on my face. :D
