Species of Animals used for Multiple Pokemon

June 2024 · 2 minute read
Hey everyone. I thought it would be fun to jot down a list of Pokemon (that currently exist and will potentially exist in the future) of which share multiple real world counterparts. Generally speaking, a Pokemon's design is based off of some Real World™ animal, vegetable, mineral, mythical creature, a combination of said items, or something new entirely. The idea behind this thread is to compile and categorize Pokemon that could be considered the same species. This is not a list to identify the Classification-Species which is listed in the PokeDex, rather try to draw from the original design basis.

We may have to speculate whether or not two or more Pokemon truely could be called 'Brothers' or 'Cousins', but I believe such debate will provide good discussion.

Without further ado, here's what's been added so far. Feel free to add your own.

Note: Evolutionary lines are grouped under the same category, unless vastly different from each other.
