And that law is, the Pokemon who have the blandest personalities, least amount of screentime, and least amount of on-screen training with Ash will be the ones to evolve first. Because obviously that just makes so much sense.
Seriously, what have Swadloon and Tranquil really done since they evolved? Is it really going to do them any good to evolve again this soon? Because I doubt it. If they're evolving Tepig just to make it "more interesting", then they're already setting that thing up for failure and indirectly confirming that they have no other ideas to make Tepig an enjoyable character. The funny thing about it is that, imo, Tepig is the cutest of the Gen V starters... while Oshawott, the screentime-stealing starter that brims with personality (to the point of overload), is the ugliest of the trio. We know they like to delay the starters' evolutions to get the most out of their marketability of their cute base stages, so part of me is morbidly amused that they'd push their cutest starter (again, imo) into evolving first.
But seriously, we usually see Oshawott and Snivy doing the hardcore training on the uncommon occasion that BW focuses on training, and Snivy was already strong before Ash caught her, deeming herself too worthy of her previous trainer. So logically she should be evolving first, right? But oh wait, this is BW, where logic can go fuck itself and die.
So yeah, these upcoming evolutions seem more like cries for help. Because they insisted on having Ash catch way more Pokemon than he needed, with no reasonable way to make good time for all of them, it looks like evolving will be the closest thing to "development" our current evolving candidates will get.
Honestly, if Ash got rid of his boring bug, his boring bird, and his boring boulder, I'd be much happier about him capturing that Krokorok. Though I still question what the point was in waiting so long for this capture to happen when it's been stalking Ash since the third goddamn episode before it suddenly dropped off the face of the earth for almost a year. There was no real build-up, so on the whole it feels entirely unnecessary. At least there's hope that this thing will have a better moveset and generally not suck as much as the majority of Ash's team.
But yeah, this is annoying because I really wanted Snivy to evolve so she'd get cooler and hopefully end up with a better moveset. And Oshawott... I just don't want it to be Piplup. Ash has no fully-evolved Water-type starter and this is a good time as any for him to finally have one, so I REALLY hope the little freak evolves eventually. Dewott is much cuter, anyway.
Sigh. Team Suck evolving first just isn't fair... and totally nonsensical. Fits right in with this series, that's for sure... I bet by the time Ash gets all these evolutions out of the way, Trip will have everything on his team fully-evolved because newbies can totally grind that fast. Nggaahhh.
