Pokémon Card Game: How To Play DS (Japanese: ポケモンカードゲーム あそびかたDS Pokémon Card Game: How To Play DS) is a game which focuses on teaching players how to play the Pokémon Trading Card Game. The Beginning Set was rereleased on August 5, 2011, which contained the same cards as the September 2010 Beginning Set, but came with this game.

It has tutorials and a digital rulebook. After the player has completed all the tutorials, there are five different CPU characters to play against.

  • ポケモンカードゲーム? Pokémon Card Game? — This tutorial introduces the main character, シユン Shun, and his friend ナナミ Nanami. Nanami introduces Shun to the Pokémon Trading Card Game and basic concepts like playing field layout, Coins, Damage Counters, and the like.
  • バト ルしよ う! Try To Battle! — A guided tutorial of Shun's first battle with Nanami. They both use the Tepig Half Deck from the Beginning Set. The tutorial guides the player through setup of a match and introduces Active Pokémon, Benched Pokémon, Prize Cards, Energy cards and attacking.
  • 進化だ! It's Evolution! — Nanami teaches Shun about evolving Pokémon and retreating. As in the previous tutorial, they both use the Tepig Half Deck.
  • トレーナーズカード Trainer Card — Nanami teaches Shun about Trainer cards. They both use the Tepig Half Deck.
  • 弱点? Weaknesses? — Shun learns about Weakness and Resistance. Shun uses the Oshawott Half Deck.
  • 特殊状態 Special Condition — Shun learns about Special Conditions. Shun uses the Snivy Half Deck.
  • 特性 Special characteristic — Shun learns about Abilities. Shun uses the Tepig Half Deck.
  • ちからをためすとき! Time to test your strength! — Shun uses the Tepig Half Deck.
  • サポート カード! Support Card! — Shun learns about Supporter cards. Shun uses the Snivy Half Deck.

    Pokémon Card Game: How to Play DS supports Nintendo DS Download Play, enabling two players to play simultaneously using only one game card.
