I don't understand why everyone suddenly thinks it's the apocalypse whenever someone mentions a new era begining. There are other possibilities

-THe first salt-water car is completely developed. I heard about someone in Canada who had built an engine that could combust salt water while he was trying to find a different method of treating cancer. If he doesn't get murdered by the oil company, I would call it a new era. THere would be so much less pollution in the air.

-SOme new piece of technology revolutionizing the lives of mankind should count as a new era.

-Genetically engineering your children which leads to great new technologies that allow us to live in outer space. We'll call it the cosmic era.

-Aliens visit.
